Atlantis Bahamas Water Fun

Atlantis Bahamas is THE place for water fun. With everything from water slides to pools to beaches – not to mention marine life interactions – Atlantis Resort Bahamas has it all.

There are 12 pools total at Atlantis. The zero-entry Mayan Temple Pool at the foot of the impressive Mayan Temple is the place to be for your Atlantis Bahamas vacation. It is a zero-entry pool with several smaller water slides. These water slides are great because there is no height requirements and hardly any wait. We watched kids go down the slides and out of the pool and then down the

slides again and again. Our little boy says this was his favorite thing at the resort. If you’re looking for something a little quieter, try the Royal Baths Pool. Palm trees fringe the area to provide shade throughout the day. We also found this was a good pool for our little boy to practice diving for dive sticks. Located at the Royal Towers Atlantis Hotel Bahamas, this pool features large painted suns. Although closest to our room in the Beach Tower at Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas, we didn’t spend much time at the River Pool. It is a zero-entry pool away from the hustle and bustle of the Maya Temple pool and big slides.  The Lagoon Pool is a free-form pool located in the tranquil setting of the Coral Towers. The Grotto Pool features two cascading water falls and is located next to the Power Tower. The Baths Pool features large columns with hieroglyphs and rockwork structures. This free-form pool is surrounded by 2.5 acres of sunning deck space and  lies adjacent Cove Beach. This pool is five feet deep at its center, the deepest of any pool at Atlantis in the Bahamas.

For those who want to swim laps, there is a Lap Pool located outside of the fitness center. The Cain at the Cove Atlantis and the Cascades pools are open only to guests staying in the Cove Atlantis, so we weren’t able to check those out.

There are several pools and water areas devoted to the smaller set. Splashers is an elaborate Mayan-themed water play structure featuring three tube slides and a side-by-side slide, cargo nets and rope bridges for climbing, water cannons, fountains and water wheels for endless soaking. Overhead, a 320-gallon bucket will regularly shower water lovers below with 8000 gallons of water per hour. I actually stood and waited for this – it was great to cool down after soaking up the Bahamian sun. They strictly enforce smaller than height requirements on the Splashers slides – I was unable to slide down with my child. Our son enjoyed Splashers. It provided a nice break for us while we watched him play. Please note it is difficult to keep an eye on kids as they run around the Splashers area. It is best if there are two of you on hand. Ripples Kids Pool features mini-water slides and flowing water fountains. Poseidon’s Kids’ Pool features a fun water fountain and gigantic animal figures that kids can climb on and slide down into the shallow pool for hours of fun and is located near the Beach Tower.  All pools at Atlantis in Bahamas are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. How strict is Atlantis about height requirements? My husband saw them measure and even turn some away from the challenger slide so make sure your kids are the right height.

Three Beaches grace Atlantis Bahama. We could see the Atlantis Beach from our room in the Beach Tower. This was the first water area we visited. Our little boy loved it until he took a wave right in the kisser. He then decided he was more of a pool person. The Cove Beach is fantastic. I ventured out and walked the whole beach which is almost entirely enclosed which shelters it a bit from the larger waves. Just a small gap heads out to the ocean. If you walk all the way to the west end of the beach, you can look back and get some great pics of the resort. The beach farthest to the west is the Paradise Beach which we didn’t make it over to but I could see it from Cove Beach. Finally, the 7-acre Paradise Lagoon Beach offers snorkeling, paddle boats and other water sports in a protected environment – great for the kids or those grown up who like to know that no “scary” fish will enter the area. I really wanted to take our little boy snorkeling here but he wasn’t quite ready.

You can’t mention water fun at Atlantis Nassau Bahamas without talking about Aquaventure – the spectacular water park at Atlantis Hotel in Bahamas. There are three main areas of Aquaventure – The Mayan Temple, the Power Tower and the Current. The Mayan Temple features The Leap of Faith which offers the daring and adventurous, a 60 ft. almost-vertical drop from the top of the Mayan Temple, propelling riders at a tremendous speed through a clear acrylic tunnel submerged in a shark-filled lagoon. My husband went down this slide. The only thing is he said he forgot to open his eyes. I’d recommend opening your eyes if you want to see the sharks! If that’s too high and fast for you, you can still go through the shark lagoon on the Serpent Slide which takes you on a tube at high speeds through the darkness of the Temple’s core. The twisting and turning ride culminates with a leisurely pass through a clear acrylic tunnel submerged in a shark-filled lagoon. Located at the Mayan Temple. We all did this one and it was

fun and not too fast or scary. The Challenger Slides are located at the back of the Mayan Temple. You can challenge a friend or your Dad! Well, ideally. However, the entire time we were there they only had one side open open. You are supposed to be able to check your speeds on the time clocks at the bottom of the slides and see who won. We all did this slide. I only did it once. I have some arthritis in my back and since this is a body slide it was a little more bumpy that the tube slides. My husband and son, however, went on it a few more times. My only warning here is – you will get a wedgie! Finally, the Jungle Slide will take you through exotic jungles and caves built into the heart of the Temple. This is a relatively tame body slide that we all went on several times.

A view of slides from the top of The Power Tower at Atlantis Bahamas.

The Power Tower features four slides – The Drop, The Falls, The Surge and the Abyss. The Abyss looked very cool, but none of us went down that slide. The Alantis Bahamas website describes it as “beginning with a staggering 50-foot near vertical drop, this thrilling 14-second, 200-foot-long body slide through waterfalls and in-and-out of the Tower’s darkness ultimately ends in an underground lair of prehistoric alligator gars.” Accessible from the river, The Drop allows guests to journey up the Tower while still in their inner tubes via a water-propelling conveyor, to then spiral down through the Tower’s dark center. The Falls is another inner tube ride accessed via the upward-pushing conveyor, where riders drop 58 feet to ground level before being propelled up again through twisting tubes. The Surge starting at the Tower’s top level, is an inner tube ride featuring a camel back drop into a cavern, ending in a flash flood. We rode all three of these. I didn’t care for the Surge (the highest one) as I got knocked around a lot. My 8-year-old also complained his back hurt when he got off. I recommend that younger and/or smaller children ride with a parent on a double tube on any of the tube slides. I also want to point out that the life guards are very strict about the height requirement. No child under 48″ may ride the Aquaventure slides at Atlantis Resort Paradise Island Bahamas.

The Current connects all of the Power Tower slides at Atlantis Bahamas.

The Current connects all of the Power Tower slides at Atlantis Bahamas.

The Current is a mile-long river expedition with four-foot waves pushing inner tube riders through a densely landscaped, tropical jungle of rapids, underground tunnels, tidal waves and Tower slides. The complex ‘transportainment’ system allows riders to float along the river or join in a queue for water slides without leaving their inner tubes. I loved the Current…you can just keep riding it in a continuous loop or get out at the Power Tower to do those slides again. This is so nice as it cuts down on the time you have to drag your tube around. This is a must-do especially if the Lazy River is too tame for you. It’s like the Lazy River kicked up a notch or two.

If you prefer a more tranquil ride – then the true Lazy River is for you. Riders slowly meander around a quarter-mile loop, guided by a gentle current. The Lazy River is located outside the Beach Tower.

Every morning, you will will need to present your room card at one of the towel huts to get a wrist band for Aquaventure at the Atlantis Hotel Paradise Island Bahamas. You will not be allowed on any slides if you do not have a wrist band. If you are located in one of the farther buildings like we were in the Beach Tower, I recommend renting lockers at Atlantis Bahamas near the Maya Temple pool. You can get a medium locker for $7 so you can stash your camera, suntan lotion, etc. I found nobody bothered our shoes when we left them next to a pool to swim, but if you have anything of value, it’s worth getting a locker. Of course, towels are free and available near every pool. The locker is also a must if you plan to use the water park on your check out day. Be sure to go get your wrist bands before you check out of your room. We went down and got ours around 10 a.m. and then I took our little guy to the Maya Temple pool to play while my husband checked us out. There was a place to check our bags and he took care of that. I got a locker for our clothes to wear to the airport. There are also outdoor showers by the lockers to shower off before you leave. We didn’t have to leave for the airport until 4 p.m. so we swam until around 2:30 before getting ready to leave.

If your family loves water fun – then I totally recommend Atlantis Bahamas Aquaventure. I am so done with indoor water parks. I can’t recommend Aquaventure at Atlantis Bahamas enough.
