Atlantis Nassau Bahamas Snorkeling, Scuba, Snuba & More

The crystal clear Bahamian waters are home to some of most beautiful—and most threatened—coral sites in the world. The Blue Project was started at Atlantis Nassau Bahamas to help preserve these beautiful reefs. Through the combined efforts of The Kerzner Marine Foundation, The Bahamas National Trust and The Nature Conservancy, The Blue Project will offer funding to complete reef refurbishment efforts around New Providence Island and Paradise Island as well as support the upkeep of these protected areas. Without this support, within 40 years, 70% of these coral reefs and much of the marine life they are home to will be gone. Eventually, The Blue Project will extend its efforts to other endangered coral reef systems around the world. More information is available at any of the three Blue Adventure Tour sales centers at Atlantis Hotel Nassau Bahamas.

You can also visit any Blue Adventures Center operated by Stuart Cove’s Aqua Adventures in Nassau, The Bahamas, recognized as one of the premiere diving operations in the world. Stuart Cove donates a portion of the proceeds of each Blue Adventures program to the Kerzner Marine Foundation, who administers The Blue Project.

You can learn more about how scientists and the Kerzner Marine Foundation are working to conserve and restore coral reefs by participating in a Blue Adventure. Blue Adventures Planners at The Reef, Atlantis Resort Nassau Bahamas, can help you choose the right excursion for you or your family according to your interests. Choose from more than a dozen Blue Adventures including snorkeling, SCUBA, SNUBA and shark you can enjoy, even if you are not a diver.

Getting ready to snorkel in Paradise Lagoon at Atlantis Nassau Bahamas.

Tropical fish and magnificent coral await guests for a snorkeling adventure. There are several snorkel outings available for the beginner to the more experienced snorkeler. If you’re a beginner to snorkeling or just feel more at ease in a protected are, you can snorkel in the seven-acre Paradise Lagoon at Atlantis in Nassau Bahamas. Just walk out from the beach. We talked to one guy who did this with his son. He said they enjoyed it because they were given food to feed the fish which of course attracted a lot of marine life. Uneasy about jumping off a boat but still would like to snorkel in the ocean? You can walk right out from Cove Beach and snorkel. Each snorkel excursion is two and a half hours long aboard a custom 45-foot Corinthian catamaran. Guests learn first hand from an Atlantis aquarist about marine conservation, coral reefs, and the colorful fish that inhabit them.

Unique helmet allows guest to walk with the sharks at Atlantis Nassau Bahamas.

Looking for something on the wild side? Take a walk with the sharks! Located at the Mayan Temple Slides and Shark Exhibit, Walking with the Sharks is easy and fun. Using state-of-the-art clear-glass helmets, participants can walk on the bottom of the Shark Exhibit at Atlantis Paradise Island Nassau Bahamas. No swimming experience necessary.Something to keep in mind is that we actually spoke to one woman who did this. She said the helmet is quite heavy and she was worrying almost the entire time if her back would hurt the next day. We also spoke to some teenage girls who walked with the sharks and they enjoyed it.

We did not participate in any of the above activities during this trip; however, we plan to next time when our son is a little older. I’ve snorkeled many places and really would love to add the Bahamas to that list. I also think that the protected snorkeling adventures at Atlantis Hotel in Nassau Bahamas will be perfect for our little guy’s introduction to snorkeling. For Blue Adventure prices, see the rate card. For more information, visit the Atlantis website.

  1. Don’t forget about Eleuthera either, there are a good number of Eleuthera resorts in the Bahamas that offer Scuba Diving and other water sports as well as the famous pink sands.

    Great post!

  2. Michael says:

Was there a minimum age for snuba? I introduced my daughter to snokeling when she was 5 and she loved it so much we have done 5 trips since then. She is now 7 and we are heading to Atlantis next month, and I would like to show her the next level of diving, snuba.
